Shangles is a lowly deckhand onboard the pirate ship, the Pernicious Pinchit. Captain Arf tasks Shangles with swabbing the decks, and the poor Pinixy doesn't get a break until they are sparkling. As a result, his mops are often worn out. He was once good friends with Spivey, but the battle between Captain Arf and Admiral Gully has meant that the two rarely see each other.
When Captain Arf hides treasure in the Petpet Park, he often makes Shangles do the digging. As a result, he knows where most of the Captain's treasure is hidden.
