The Island Mystic is also known as an island elder in the game Berry Bash. The Mystic in fact gets the fortunes he tells from a book of fortunes, but he does still appear to have some genuine abilities.
The Island Mystic was originally a humanoid creature, before falling into the Cooking Pot in Year 5. As a humanoid, he looked more like this:
