The Book of Ages

Old Abilities

Before the new Battledome was released in Y14, your Neopet had a large variety of abilities to choose from. Unlike the current faerie abilities, these were represented by fun animated images. These were granted to your pet when an old bottled faerie blessed your pet if their level was high enough.

Over the years, these animations evolved to reflect a more refined, modern artistic style consistent with the rest of the site. Old pets like the Fleye and Fuzio were replaced, gradients were eliminated, and the animations were given more frames for fluid motion. Here is a gallery of the many generations of abilities that once existed in all their animated glory, along with their official descriptions!

The first generation of abilities was released in Y2 and was not animated. Instead, often background-less images were used, filled with gradients that gave them that old Neopets charm. Shortly after the first animated images were released, and the trend of animating ability images would last for over a decade. Faerie abilities were redrawn at least three times throughout the old Battledome's lifetime. Sadly, some abilities, such as Alchemy and Teleport, were scrapped along the way.

You can view in-depth information of all of the abilities and their effects here.
