Over the years, TNT have held many polls on makeovers of different Neopet species. Some of these, however, were planned but never made public, with TNT eventually making the choices themselves.
Prior to the release of the Pteri on May 16th, 2001, TNT were seemingly planning on giving users a poll on the upcoming species design. A total of twelve designs were uploaded, but the poll was never released. TNT appear to have decided on design number 3 internally, workshopping it as the 'Teri' as they continued to develop it into the Pteri that was eventually released.

In early 2001, TNT uploaded images in preparation of holding a poll on the look of a new Crocodilian Neopet. The poll was never made public, and the plans for the Neopet ultimately scrapped. The Krawk, a Crocodile-inspired Neopet, would ultimately be released in 2002 independently of these designs. Design number 2 would later reappear in 2005 as part of the April Fools to release new Neopet species, where it was known as the Shudon.

At some point in March 2001, TNT uploaded images in preparation of a poll for a new Neopet. The poll was never released, and the Neopet designs ultimately never used. The poll included several designs from the previous unreleased Pteri, Snake, and Shudon polls, as well as some new ones. Many of these would later return for the 2005 April Fools, where they were given official names like the Furmani, the Shudon, the Talikat, and the Talmu.

Some images exist for a Zafara pet poll that may or may not have ever occurred. Option 1 looks similar to even the earliest version of the Zafara, which was based on an entry in the very first Create-a-Pet Contest according to the New Features on May 25, 2000. New versions of the Zafara were announced in the New Features on Nov 1, 2000, and on Feb 27, 2001, but a poll was never mentioned, with the latter announcement even explicitly acknowledging the lack of one.
