Unreleased Pet Colours

Some colours had artwork created by TNT, but never actually released to players. Sometimes the artwork was never released due to the species style changing before it could be, or because a different interpretation of the colour ended up being used instead. Unreleased versions were sometimes discoverable by checking image URLs or leaked by TNT in other ways.

This is different than scrapped artwork, which was available to players for some time before being replaced by updated artwork.

Sometimes artwork was seemingly uploaded for a version of a species, but the artwork style for that species was updated before it could be released!

Unreleased Speckled, Split, and White Bruce

These versions of the Speckled, Split, and White Bruce were drawn in the style of the Bruce's second version. An actual Speckled Bruce was released in October 2001, Split in May 2001, and White in December 2001, all in the style of the Bruce's fourth version. Bruce Version History »

Unreleased Tyrannian Buzz

There are two versions of unreleased Tyrannian Buzz. The older one is a bit simpler.

A newer one has a full set of unreleased pre-customisation Tyrannian Buzz poses uploaded and discovered in May 2006, which are still existent on Neopets servers. It was never released for unknown reasons, and an actual Tyrannian Buzz was released in January 2022 based on this design, in its customisation version. Buzz Version History »

Unreleased Juppie Swirl Chia

The Juppie Swirl Chia had been around since the early 2000s, and remained as an unreleased colour combo from the pre-customisation days. There was even a Juppie Swirl Chia Pop. A Juppie Swirl Chia was later released in February 2022 (with a magical version) alongside the Coconut Chia.

As a bit of a fun fact, the Juppie Swirl Chia was released alongside a Coconut Chia. The assets for the Coconut Chia had been uploaded in September 2008, and were used seemingly unchanged for its 2022 release!

Unreleased Strawberry Chia

Artwork for a Strawberry Chia was created prior to customisation but never released. A customisable Strawberry Chia and Magical Strawberry Chia Pop were later released on November 22, 2013.

Unreleased Split Cybunny

This version of the Split Cybunny was drawn in the style of the Cybunny's first version. An actual Split Cybunny was released in November 2003, in the style of the Cybunny's second version. Cybunny Version History »

Unreleased Grey Draik

A small subset of unreleased pre-customisation Grey Draik poses were uploaded and discovered in September 2005, which are still existent on Neopets servers. It was never released for unknown reasons, and an actual Grey Draik was released in April 2011, in its customisation version. The unreleased happy pose was later released as a Pet Style in January 2024.

Unreleased Faerie Eyrie

A full set of unreleased pre-customisation Faerie Eyrie poses were uploaded and discovered in October 2005, however, they were removed at some time afterward. It was never released for unknown reasons, and an actual Faerie Eyrie with a much different aesthetic was released in October 2007, in its customisation version. The unreleased happy pose was later released as a Pet Style in September 2024.

Unreleased Desert Gelert

A couple pre-customisation poses of the Desert Gelert were discovered in January 2007. It was never released for unknown reasons, and an actual Desert Gelert was released in March 2008, in its customisation style.

Unreleased Faerie Hissi

A full set of unreleased pre-customisation Faerie Hissi poses were uploaded and discovered in June 2005, only about a month after the Hissi was first released, which are still existent on Neopets servers. It was never released for unknown reasons, and an actual Faerie Hissi was released in September 2009, in its customisation version. The unreleased circle pose was later released as a Pet Style in January 2024.

These versions of the Fire Koi, Glass Koi, and Strawberry Koi were drawn in the style of the Koi's first version. An actual Fire Koi was released in May 2003, in the style of the Koi's second version. An actual Strawberry Koi was released in May 2005, in the style of the Koi's third version. Unreleased Darigan Poogle

This one is a little different than others in this section, because it was sort of released, but as a TNT-only colour! Only one existed on a TNT account, and its unreleased poses are still existent on Neopets servers. The design was allegedly drawn to be intentionally ugly. A widely available Darigan Poogle was released in September 2008, in its customisation version. The unreleased happy pose was later released as a Pet Style in January 2024.

Unreleased Speckled Quiggle

A full set of unreleased pre-customisation Speckled Quiggle poses were uploaded and discovered in June 2006, which are still existent on Neopets servers. It was never released for unknown reasons, and an actual Speckled Quiggle was released in January 2008, in its customisation version.

Unreleased Robot Scorchio

A full set of unreleased pre-customisation Robot Scorchio poses were uploaded and discovered in March 2007, which are still existent on Neopets servers. Unreleased Sketch Scorchio

A full set of unreleased pre-customisation Sketch Scorchio poses were uploaded and discovered in December 2005, which are still existent on Neopets servers. It was never released for unknown reasons, and an actual Sketch Scorchio was released in March 2013, in its customisation version.

Unreleased Speckled Skeith

A full set of unreleased pre-customisation Speckled Skeith poses were uploaded and discovered in June 2006, which are still existent on Neopets servers. It was never released for unknown reasons, and an actual Speckled Skeith was released in September 2007, in its customisation version.

Unreleased Sponge Techo

A full set of unreleased pre-customisation Sponge Techo poses were uploaded and discovered in April 2005, which are still existent on Neopets servers. It was never released for unknown reasons, and an actual Sponge Techo was released in November 2024, in its customisation version. The unreleased happy pose was later released as a Pet Style in December 2024.

Unreleased White Tuskaninny

These versions of the Cloud Uni, Pirate Uni, and Tyrannian Uni were drawn in the style of the Uni's second version. Unreleased Alternate Versions

Sometimes preliminary artwork was seemingly uploaded for a version of a species, but a different aesthetic was chosen for the actual released version.

Unreleased Maraquan Aisha

This unreleased version of the Maraquan Aisha used the traditional seated pose of the Aisha's second version, which differs from the swimming one that was actually released.

Unreleased Marble Chia

This unreleased version of the Marble Chia has the regular Chia hairstyle, which differs from the distinctive mohawk hair that was actually released.

Unreleased Shadow Chomby

On September 18, 2001, Neopets renamed the Shadowed colour to Shadow. Rather than updating the image URLs, a new set of shadow URLs were uploaded, and the original stars URLs were left in place. This unreleased version of the "Shadowed" Chomby had images uploaded but never released in the scrapped matte black style. A Shadow Chomby was actually released nearly a year and a half after the name change.

Unreleased Starry Chomby

On September 18, 2001, Neopets renamed the Stars colour to Starry. Rather than updating the image URLs, a new set of starry URLs were uploaded, and the original stars URLs were left in place. This unreleased version of the "Stars" Chomby had images uploaded but never released, and has a slightly different star pattern and unique Battledome poses than the one that actually released a couple months after the name change.

Unreleased Shadow Cybunny

On September 18, 2001, Neopets renamed the Shadowed colour to Shadow. Rather than updating the image URLs, a new set of shadow URLs were uploaded, and the original stars URLs were left in place. This unreleased version of the "Shadowed" Cybunny had images uploaded but never released in the scrapped matte black style. A Shadow Cybunny was actually released nearly three years after the name change.

Unreleased Pirate Kacheek

This unreleased version of the Pirate Kacheek has a purple base colour, which differs from the greyish one that was actually released.

Unreleased Desert Kiko

This unreleased version of the Desert Kiko seemingly inspired the Dynastic Clerics in NeoQuest II, which first launched in January 2004. A different version of the Desert Kiko was eventually released in September 2005.

Unreleased Mutant Korbat

This unreleased version of the Mutant Korbat has a furry and scrappy appearance, which differs from the green and blue one that was actually released.

Unreleased Baby Nimmo

This unreleased version of the Baby Nimmo was conceived as a smaller version of a regular Nimmo, rather than the tadpole-inspired version actually released.

Unreleased Baby Pteri

This unreleased version of the Baby Pteri is slightly more pastel and has spots in a different location than the version that was ultimately released.

Unreleased Silver Scorchio

This unreleased version of the Silver Scorchio has an extreme gradient, which differs from the regular one that was actually released.

Unreleased Jelly Shoyru

This unreleased version of the Jelly Shoyru is an orangey colour, which differs from the purpleish one that was actually released.

Unreleased Disco Techo

The customisation style Disco Techo was originally intended to have an afro, which was ultimately omitted from the actually released version for unknown reasons. This afro was configured as part of the colour's biology assets rather than a wearable item.

Unreleased Grey Techo

The Grey Techo was first released in April 2005. An early draft of its Ranged Attack pose was discovered due to a typo in its image URL. You can compare this version to the actual released pose which remains on the Neopets servers.

Unreleased Baby Wocky

This unreleased version of the Baby Wocky is a completely different style from the yellow pajama-clad version that was released.

Unreleased Mutant Wocky

This version of the Mutant Wocky appeared first in December 2009, likely as a second colour for Wocky Day on December 12th. That year, only one new Wocky colour combo was released (Biscuit), and Mutant remained unreleased. A matching Transmogrification Potion item image was even created:

Although unconfirmed by TNT, the likely reason for this version remaining unreleased was that traditionally, Mutant colour combos are reserved for Mutant Day in August. Releasing one outside of August would have "stolen" content for Mutant Day, so to speak. This version seemed to have been forgotten about, and instead we received the green/purple version on Wocky Day in 2015.

Leaked by TNT

Sometimes TNT inadvertently leaks pet artwork indirectly, or through somewhere other than directly on the Neopets servers.

Legends & Letters

The short-lived mobile app Legends & Letters released in January 2019. The game contained a trove of Neopet poses that never made it into the app's gameplay. While most of these poses comprised of artwork on Neopets.com, several unreleased colour combos were included as well. Some of these colours would later be officially released on Neopets.com, though with different designs than the Legends & Letters art.

Obtainable Colours

These colours could actually be obtained and were visible within the app, either as a default colour or through the use of a Paint Brush purchased from the Gem Store.

Unobtainable Colours

These colours could not actually be obtained in the app because the colour and/or the species were not actually incorporated in the gameplay.

Within Site Artwork

TNT often uses species customisation assets within site artwork, such as when they announce new wearable items in the New Features alongside an example customisation image. Sometimes, the artwork used for this does not match any released colour.

Alternate Green Chia

A Chia with an unusual green tone has been used a few times by TNT in example images alongside new wearables in the New Features, but does not match any released Neopets colour.

Alternate Green Gelert

A Gelert with an unusually earthy green tone has been used several times by TNT in example images alongside new wearables in the New Features, but does not match any released Neopets colour.

Alternate Red Gnorbu

A Gnorbu with an unusually pale red tone has been used several times by TNT in example images alongside new wearables in the New Features, but does not match any released Neopets colour.

It was also used (with its tail inexplicably missing) in the preview image for the Team Faerieland Cap in the Altador Cup XIII prize shop on July 4, 2018.

A Gelert with an unusually pale peachy tone has been used a couple times by TNT in example images alongside new wearables in the New Features, but does not match any released Neopets colour.

A Moehog with an unusual teal tone has been used a few times by TNT in example images alongside new wearables in the New Features, but does not match any released Neopets colour.

A Nimmo with an unusual grey tone and a pink chest has been used a few times by TNT in example images alongside new wearables in the New Features, but does not match any released Neopets colour.

Alternate Blue Skeith

A Skeith with an unusual pale blue tone and yellow accents has been used a few times by TNT in example images alongside new wearables in the New Features, but does not match any released Neopets colour.

This unreleased colour was also seemingly used for the design of Aiden from The Wraith Resurgence plot.

An Usul with an unusual full blue colour scheme has been used several times by TNT, but does not match any released Neopets colour.

"20 Years of Customisation" Social Media Image

On October 19, 2019, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Neopets, TNT shared an image on social media that featured all 55 species each in a different colour. The image is also frequently used in official Neopets press releases. However, two of the colours shown were not actually released!
