The Varwolf is a canine Neopet that is typically a quadruped. They are identifiable from their thick ruffs and a long set of upper canine teeth that protrude out of their mouths even when closed.
Varwolves are native to the Haunted Woods, and prefer dark and spooky places to live. They often hollow out trees to make burrows to hide in. Varwolves can often be found scavenging for food in the woods, and are happy to eat food that most Neopets find disgusting. Varwolves have heightened senses, and love the food due to the smells they have.
Varwolves are reclusive creatures, and presumably for this reason they will not accept being put in the Pound, and will re away forever instead if they are abandoned. When hiding, Varwolves are often difficult to spot due to their ability to blend into the shadows around them. Varwolf fur absorbs light instead of reflecting it, and if they shake it out, they will briefly vanish from sight as a form of camouflage.
Despite being discovered in 2025, the Varwolf had actually been known about since 2005 when they were featured as part of 50 'new' Neopets introduced during that year's April Fools. The Varwolf was teased on social media for a month prior to its actual release in 2025, when it was initially only available to Premium users through the species change perk.
